On April 19, 2015, Freddie Grey, a 25 year-old African American man died while in police custody from severe spinal cord injuries. As a result of Grey’s death, massive protests and rioting ensued throughout Baltimore, a city plagued with systemic disparity and a police department that is widely accused of regular excessive force and brutality. On May 01, 2015, Maryland State Attorney, Marilyn Mosby announced that criminal charges would be brought against the six Baltimore police officers who were involved in Grey’s arrest and death.
